I’ve been taking Omega 3 Capsules and it seems to me that the evidence for taking more Omega 3 fatty acids in our diet is pretty clear and has been for some time. And the evidence also seems clear to me that our health is directly linked to the level of Omega3 fats in our diet.

But recently I spoke to a friend about this and he told me he wouldn’t take supplements. He said that he thought that supplementation with omega 3 fish oil capsules was unproven and that therefore you ought not to take them. So I thought I’d discuss that.

Because there seems to be the perception that dietary supplements are a bit of voodoo, something that makes money for the people who make them, but quite unnecessary.

And plenty of people also see the taking of dietary supplementation as “alternative” and not recognized by the medical profession. That real people won’t take them.

So I thought it important to examine whether there are solid and recognised medical authorities that do recommend that we increase our intake of Omega 3 fatty acids and are comfortable with omega 3 supplementation and who recommend the Benefits Of Fish Oil.

No lesser authority than the American Heart Association says:

The American Heart Association says “Omega-3 fatty acids benefit the heart of healthy people, and those at high risk of , or who have, cardiovascular disease.

They make recommendations for the intake of Omega 3 fats and suggest that we eat at least a 2 servings of fish a week, and other foods high in Omega oils like soybeans and tofu.

And they also make some very specific suggestions for people with CHD, or coronary heart disease. They should eat at least 1 gram of EPA and DHA per day, and for those who need to lower their triglycerides its suggested that they take from 2 to 4 grams of EPA and DHA as capsules, doctor supervised.

It’s harder to get much clearer than that. The AHA says on its website that we should increase our intake of Omega 3 fatty acids as food or as Omega 3 supplements.

Diet is of course a great way to take your Omega 3. But that isn’t always easy and here is why.

You can get Omega 3 oils in meat. Good old beef and lamb. But that only applies to grass fed beef and lamb because grass fed beef and lamb have a reasonable level of Omega3 fatty acids but grain fed beef and lamb does not. And ours is grain fed.

So it isn’t actually that easy getting enough good fats in your diet, and so studies have found that our diets are deficient in them.

And if you’re one of those who say that Omega 3 supplementation is not accepted by the mainstream medical profession then remember the AHA. They’re pretty mainstream. They certainly accept the importance of omega 3 dietary supplementation on their website and they are about as mainstream medicine as you can get.
