Thanks to the increased attention brought by the media, the subject of hypnosis is hardly a strange one. There is much that is known about hypnosis. During a hypnosis session the individual is put into an altered state of consciousness. He is also more prone to responding to suggestions. Arriving at this state can be achieved in a number of ways. In some instances a hypnotist is required for a successful hypnotism. Individuals who are able to control key areas like breathing are also able to induce self hypnosis.

Many medical professionals are conversant with the use of hypnosis. Its use has been adopted in the treatment of behavioral and physiological ailments. Back pain as well as other muscular pains are just some of the type of conditions that can be treated with hypnosis. Occasionally, the pain of pregnant women has been relieved through its use . Although all this can be treated with hypnosis, it use is mostly centered on the treatment of psychological/behavioral conditions.. Behavioral disorders such as overeating, insomnia, cigarette smoking can all be treated effectively with hypnosis. Illnesses that are linked to possible psychological causes, such as Raynaud’s Syndrome or male impotency can also be addressed with the use of hypnosis.

When an individual is hypnotized he experience lessened awareness of the immediate environment. The loss in sensory of physical experiences is replaced by an emphasis on mental and psychological sensation. The hypnotist is considered to be the handler during such hypnosis sessions. How deep the trance can get will vary from individual to individual. In an intense trance, individuals are able to respond to posthypnotic suggestions which they forget once the session has been completed. 20 percent of people who undergo hypnosis belong to this category.

Results of a hypnotized session can be used in introductions in court, but it is not accepted as a form of evidence. The reason behind the refusal is based on a claims hypnotic recounts are sometimes merged with unreal fantasies . Depression and emotional fears are also known to sometimes taint the credibility behind the recount of an hypnotic session. Owing to all these, the results of a hypnotized session are merely considered in light of the individual’s emotion and not a testament of actual truth.
