A left-handed keyboard is one with a standard configuration of letter keys (e.g. QUERTY), but its accessory keys (arrow, delete, insert, etc.) and numerical keypad are on the left side of the letter keys. At first, a left-handed keyboard appears to be a mirror image of a standard one.

The express purpose of the left handed keyboard is to provide left-handed typists with a key arrangement more suited to their abilities. Right-handed typists, however, can benefit from this alternate arrangement since the placement of accessory keys on the right side of a keyboard provides little ergonomic advantage.

The main factors that are focused on in regards to this science include the security, the maximum capacity of presentation, the comfort level, ease and the aesthetic. These have been briefly explained in the following lines. The security factor for example might involve the proper printing on the bottles of respective drugs for the ease of people who suffer from say weak eyesight. It will aid in proper viewing.

The most common ergonomics-related injuries are caused by mice (the computer kind, of course). When people are moving a mouse around every day from a slightly awkward position, they can get a condition called repetitive strain injury (RSI) that can leave them unable to move their hand at all.

Gamers may also like left-handed keyboards. When a game demands simultaneous use of a numerical keypad (e.g. for navigating) and the mouse (e.g. for shooting), gamers must use a set of letter keys as a surrogate numeric keypad. How easy it would be if a numeric keypad were right there–beneath the user’s left hand!.

Clearly, there are benefits to left handed keyboards that right-handed users should not ignore. In fact, it is a wonder that standard keyboards are not configured in this way. A typist must use both hands to use the letter keys as they are intended, but the numeric keypad and arrow keys were designed to be used with one hand. It makes ergonomic sense that these one-handed features be located underneath the typical user’s free hand, not next to a hand that is already occupied operating the mouse.
