Heather is a fifty-six-year-old woman who is the top administrator in the human resources department at a large metal coatings company. To help decrease the costs associated with poor employee work performance, work related injuries, employee alcoholism and alcohol abuse, excessive sick days, and increasing absenteeism, Heather and the other members of top management launched numerous programs that made the work environment significantly more productive, safe, and healthy.

For instance, fifteen years ago Heather and the other members of upper management implemented an Employee’s Assistance Program so that all the workers had access to first-rate therapy for their personal problems that could harm their health, personal well-being, and their work performance.

The Company Leaders Build An Avant-Garde Exercise and Workout Room Complete With Mirrors, Exercise Charts, a Personal Trainer During Business Hours, Weights, Exercise Equipment, and Scales

As another illustration, nearly six-and-a-half years ago Heather and the other company executives assembled a new workout and exercise room complete with weights, a professional trainer during business hours, many different types of exercise equipment, scales, mirrors, and exercise charts.

Furthermore, roughly four years ago Heather and the other company leaders invested in a distillation system that filters all the drinking water that is obtainable in the building complex. Likewise, two-and-a-half years ago, Heather and the other members of top management started a “walking club” that is intended for workers who want to build up their cardiovascular system.

The Company Executives Start a Weight-Watchers Class and Hire a Weight-Loss Healthcare Professional to Manage the Program

As another illustration, around two years ago, Heather and the other company administrators established a “Weight-Watchers” class that at this time meets every workday at 5:00 PM until 6:00 PM. In addition, the company administrators signed up a weight-loss healthcare professional to run the program.

In the same way, a year-and-a-half ago Heather and the other company leaders put into operation a “Stop Smoking Club” for employers who want to learn how to stop or cut back on their smoking.

In the last seven months, in conjunction with the Employee’s Assistance Program, Heather and the other VIPs established an “Anger Management” class for workers who want to learn how to better control their anger issues.

The Company Administrators Put Into Operation An Alcohol and Drug Testing Program

In the last five months, Heather and the other company leaders established a alcohol and drug testing program that is related to their drug and alcohol abuse prevention program. Indeed, Heather is the key individual in the company responsible for getting the message out to all the workers about the drug and alcohol abuse prevention program as well as the drug and alcohol testing program.

One of the major elements of the drug and alcohol abuse prevention program is a class entitled “Alcoholism and Depression” that meets every Thursday after work. The primary idea with this class is informing workers that excessive drinking and depression many times take place in the same individual. It is hoped that knowing this information can help a person address both medical issues and get the alcohol therapy and mental health counseling he or she needs.

Top Management Starts an Alcohol Statistics and Facts Class

Another fairly recent addition to the drug and alcohol abuse prevention program is a class entitled “Alcohol Statistics and Facts.” The rationale behind this alcohol statistics facts class is the reality that numerous people are unsuccessful in their attempt to grasp the full impact of the results of alcoholism and alcohol abuse without first reading about some of the alcohol addiction and alcohol abuse statistics and facts that are available. As a consequence, one of the goals of this class is to provide various alcohol dependency and alcohol abuse statistics and facts to help workers gain a better understanding of the huge number of issues that are related to irresponsible and hazardous drinking and how they can prevent these difficulties from occurring.

Most recently, Heather and the other members of upper management, through feedback from workers, started a class that centers directly on acute drinking entitled “What is Alcoholism”? This class meets every Wednesday morning an hour before work and focuses largely on the differences between alcohol addiction and alcohol abuse, on the stages of alcoholism, and on the kinds of rehabilitation that are available for people who have alcohol drinking problems such as individuals who drink in an abusive manner.

Even though every one of these health and preventative maintenance programs was anything but low-cost, top management reasons that they are several thousands of dollars ahead by providing all of their workers with a more productive, healthy, and safe working situation.
