Alcohol abuse statistics show that alcohol abuse among adolescents is increasing in the United States. What are some of the reasons for this? Quite a few alcohol abuse experts emphasize the point that wine, liquor, and beer ads produced by the media are an important reason for the expansion of teen alcohol abuse.

Other alcohol abuse consultants stress the point that the increase in adolescent alcohol abuse is due to the acceptability and accessibility of liquor, wine, and beer in our society.

Still other alcohol dependency professionals argue that numerous teenagers get involved in injurious drinking due to the increased apprehension that they experience.

From a somewhat different outlook, because both parents in quite a few families are gainfully employed, the lack of parental supervision unquestionably has to play an essential role in the rise in youth alcohol abuse. Let us manufacture a scenario for descriptive purposes. Let us imagine a society in which all individuals are trained how to achieve high-quality coping skills all the way from kindergarten up to and including the twelfth grade.

In such a society, when life gets stressful, individuals who are ”coping skills experts” will be able to respond in a more healthy and more rewarding manner, contrary to others who fail to apply their coping skills.

Stated more precisely, students who display excellent coping skills will be more able to think logically and display top-shelf decision making as opposed to teenagers who, because they were unsuccessful in their attempts to develop top quality coping skills, are attracted to the “quick fix” of abusive drinking.

What would happen in the above “ideal” society, moreover, if teenagers not only obtained first-rate coping skills training but also obtained a top quality education that stressed the long term and short term negative outcomes associated with drug abuse and alcohol abuse? Emphasizing these kinds of drug and alcohol abuse facts, along with more highly developed coping skills instruction, it is emphasized, would help teens stay away from the clear appeal related to adolescent drinking and, for that reason, would significantly decrease the alcohol abuse displayed by teens in our country.

Adolescent Risky Drinking: Conclusion

There are certainly scores of compelling reasons why so many of our teens drink in a hazardous manner. Such a knotty predicament demands a wide-ranging and more meaningful educational and preventative response by our students, educators, politicians, and parents so that our teens can learn how to cope with life’s problems in a more rewarding and accountable way instead of gravitating to excessive drinking behavior to solve their problems.
