Have you ever wondered what it’s like to go to the chiropractor? Well one day in the [spin]summer of 2002 I found out.

Back in 1986 I had a very bad automobile accident. In thewreck I broke my neck and back. It was not good however, I recovered somewhat and got on with my life. Moved on.

I was able to get back to most of the things I did before the accident, misfortune well at least until the year 2001.

It was then, that for some unknown reason I had a retrogression and had to have lower back surgery.

All went as planed, except I had lost 30% flexibility in my neck and back. Ihad to go through physical therapy although, it was not really helping at all. So my Doctor told me suggested that I go to a Chiropractor’s. My doctor didn’t call them chiropractor though; he called them bone and joint manipulators. The Doctor had his assistant set up the chiropractic appointment session for me.

A month later I went to the Chiropractor’s office. This was my first time and I didn’t know what to expect. I was apprehensive about the whole ordeal.

I was in chronic pain and I really didn’t want anyone bending and folding me in any way shape or form. So as you can image how cranky I was when I went to the receptionist’s window. “Can I help you”, the slim red haired older women from behind the glass inquired in a cheerful and friendly voice.

I was really trying not to sound grumpy as I shouted out, yes I’m here to see the Dr.; I mean bone and joint manipulator. The receptionist smiled and ask me to fill out a few documents, then said told me to please have a seat.

It seemed like an hour or two but finally a nurse came out and called me. I was almost asleep by that time and I didn’t’ hear her the first time. After a moment the nurse announced my name. I came to and answered, “I’m here”. This way please she said as she went toward the examining rooms in the back of the clinic. I go up and followed her to a small examining room that had a long medical table in the middle and a few Dr. looking things on a small counter on the right side. Please wait here and the Dr. will be with you in a minute the nurse told me and she went away.

It was just a short while after that when the chiropractor came in. “Hello, I’m Dr. Sheppered” he introduced. “Your records show that your having a bit of a lower back problem.” Before I could say a word he told me to lie down on my stomach on the table. I lay down, and without saying a word he started to manipulate me into shapes I didn’t even know were possible.

All in all I was there about a half an hou, although it felt like a life time. I really didn’t’ feel any better, in reality I felt worse. But,I was back there in four weeks ready and willing to go through the torture again.

Again this visit to the chiropractor was the same as the last. Again I didn’t feel any better. I was just as stiff and I hurt just as bad.

On my next visit the chiropractor told me that if I was not getting better by then that I probably was not going to. I was pleased with his straightforwardness. Anyone else would have just kept making appointments and receiving that insurance money. Even though I didn’t benefit from my visits to a chiropractor it does not mean that most people won’t. I would recommend suggest that you see a doctor if you have incapacitating pain and if he refers you to a chiropractor, go. They know what they are doing and can help you. you.
