There are four types of diabetic neuropathy which include: Neuropathy, Peripheral, Autonomic and Proximal.

The feet and legs are the areas of the body which are most commonly affected by diabetic peripheral neuropathy. Nerve damage in the feet can result in loss of sensation increasing the risk of foot problems. Major injuries and blisters will not be felt because of the lack of sensation. Thus, its the reason why you should take proper care of your feet. The symptoms of diabetic neuropathy, peripheral may include tingling, severe or long term numbness which can become permanent, burning sensations and pain. But, the good news is there is electronic pain relief for diabetics available nowadays to help ease the pain.

When the blood sugar is controlled, the symptoms will then be minimized. To prevent peripheral neuropathy, work with your doctor to help you keep your blood glucose under control. Examine your feet and legs daily, apply lotion if your feet our dry care for your nails regularly and wear proper footwear and wear them all the time to prevent any foot problem.

Diabetic autonomic neuropathy oftentimes targets the digestive system affecting the functions of stomach, blood vessels, urinary system and sex organs.  Continuously keep your blood sugar levels well controlled. The evident symptoms which can be felt in the digestive system include bloating, diarrhea, constipation, heartburn, feeling full after only eating a small amount and nausea. Treatments of autonomic neuropathy of the digestive system include eating smaller meals, and diabetics medications. Autonomic neuropathy of the blood vessels is shown with increased heart rate, dizziness, low blood pressure, nausea, vomiting, early fullness and low blood pressure.

Treatment relief for autonomic neuropathy of the blood vessels may include avoiding standing up too quickly, medications and wearing special socks. Results of autonomic neuropathy on males may include erectile dysfunction and dry or reduced ejaculations. Treatments for this can be counselling, penile implant, penile injections, medication and vacuum erection device. For the female, the organs may lack vaginal lubrication and lack the ability to orgasm. Treatments for this condition are counselling, suppositories, rings, lubricants and vaginal estrogen creams.

Thigh and hip pain are a few of the symptoms of diabetic proximal neuropathy. The outcomes include weakness, pain, fatigue. Diabetic focal neuropathy can appear suddenly and can affect specific nerves. Muscle pains and weakness would likely occur in the nerves of the head, torso and leg. Signs that may occur are double vision, eye pain paralysis on one side of the face, serious pain, chest and abdominal pain. This type of neuropathy is very painful and unpredictable it tends to improve over weeks and does not cause long damage.
