Cracking Joints: Causes and Remedies

Any place in the body where two bones meet is known as a joint. The meeting surfaces of joints are made of cartilage tissue. Those joints in which the surface of cartilage do not meet, allow wide movements. Cracking joints disrupt the range of movements in the normal course of life. Hinged joints are connected to strong ligaments that prevent any sideways movement with the joint bending like a hinge. These joints are let out a cracking noise when their alignment is disturbed by the weakness of the surrounding muscle tissue.

Cracking joints cause intense pain as the ligaments connecting the bones together are also affected. The ligaments are attached to the bones and keep the joints in position. In addition to this, there is a chance of injury to the lubricating sac surrounding the joint. If this lubricating mechanism is not present then it increases the possibility of friction between the bones and this may lead to serious health consequences. Every joint has its own particular way of fitting together. Shallow joints with a wide range of movements such as the shoulder are affected more easily than the other.

Continuous and repeated straining of joints can lead to cracking joints. One of the obvious ways y which you can avoid the problem of cracking joints is by learning the right method to lift weights. Most people hurt their joints because they tend to be careless when doing work that requires them to lift heavy weights off the floor. An incorrect lifting posture can lead to the cracking of the knee and ankle joints. Contact your physiotherapist for an illustrated guide to the correct posture that you should adopt while completing a do it yourself task or any other work involving physical labor.

You could also be afflicted with the problem of cracking joints if you tend to lift very heavy weights at the gym. It is important to follow the advice of the gym instructor and start a scientific weight training program where the weight that you lift is increased in a gradual manner. You could also get problems from cracking joints if you are heavily built. In such cases you back and knee joints will be most affected. Gentle and continuous exercise of the joints and enrolling in weight loss programs is one of the best ways by which you can protect yourself against the risk of cracking joints.
