Larry eventually made up his mind that he needed to go and see his physician about his hazardous drinking.  At first, Larry thought he would be able to essentially go online, look for some fundamental alcohol info, and come to a decision whether or not he was dependent on alcohol.  Not unexpectedly, he discovered several websites that listed some of the commonplace alcoholism symptoms.  That’s the good news. The less than encouraging news, sorry to say, was that Larry presented many of these alcoholism symptoms.

Alcohol Addiction Symptoms Revisited

As an illustration, Larry was drinking substantially more than usual and he was starting to have more passionate arguments with his significant other.  In much the same way, for the first time in his life he was suffering through sleeping difficulties. Besides this, Larry time and again felt depressed and on an ever increasing basis he had been demonstrating less than usual attention to detail at his place of work.

Furthermore, he felt stressed out and more anxious on a regular basis and for the past four or five months he had shown evidence of confused thinking while at work.  Since Larry demonstrated all of these symptoms, he was excusably concerned about his excessive drinking.

So Larry finally made up his mind that he needed to make a phone call to his physician and make an appointment.  In point of fact, this was problematic for Larry because his healthcare professional was also his parents’ physician.  The springboard for his anxiety was this: at the risk of embarrassing his family, he had to go and divulge his reckless and excessive drinking behavior to his family healthcare practitioner.

When Larry arrived at the doctor’s office, he explicitly told the healthcare practitioner about the apprehension he had about his irresponsible drinking behavior.  When the doctor asked what was setting off this fear, Larry acknowledged that he had gone on the Internet and read about alcoholism and especially about alcoholism symptoms. He then listed all of the alcohol addiction symptoms that he evidently thought he had.

A Thoroughgoing Physical Evaluation and Outpatient Alcohol Rehab

The family doctor told Larry that it was smart of him to focus on his drinking problems, he gave Larry a comprehensive physical assessment, and suggested that he enter into an out-patient alcohol treatment program that was supervised by one of his doctor co-workers.

Moreover, when Larry expressed the fact that he had been feeling despair to an increasing degree, the family physician notified Larry that alcoholism and depression often occur in the same individual.  Accordingly, the healthcare practitioner also recommended that Larry obtain therapy to attend to his despair.

The Importance of Addressing Your Drinking Problems

The family physician made it a point to inform Larry that he might not necessarily be addicted to alcohol, but that he was without a doubt drinking in an irresponsible manner.  The doctor then told Larry that the reason he recommended alcohol rehab in the first place was because he wanted him to confront his drinking problems, make sure that he prevented them from going downhill further, and start to live in a more healthy manner, even if it meant that he had to thoroughly abstain from drinking.

Everything considered, by successfully treating his problem drinking, Larry would be able to get his drinking issues under control and quit the negative cycle that could almost certainly lead to alcoholism.

Undoubtedly, Larry did not want to face the thought of enrolling in an alcohol treatment program. Nor was he ecstatic about going to a counselor about his despair.  Notwithstanding these anxieties, alternatively, Larry in reality felt some psychological relief for the first time in numerous months because he finally stopped making excuses for himself and finally made up his mind that he needed to do something productive about his drinking activities.
